Windows 7 Shortcuts Cheat Sheet
When Microsoft released Windows 7 they also unleashed new features that make interacting with apps on your desktop easier. If you are like me, you run several apps at one time, many of which require the keyboard as their primary input device. I found this cheat sheet buried in Windows 7 literature as to the keyboard combinations to use with the keyboard instead of jumping over to the mouse.
| Shortcut | Description |
| {Windows Key} + Up Arrow | Maximize |
| {Windows Key} + Down Arrow | Restore or minimize |
| {Windows Key} + Left Arrow | Snap to left. When combined with snap to right places 2 windows side by side on the desktop |
| {Windows Key} + Right Arrow | Snap to right. When combined with snap to left places 2 windows side by side on the desktop |
| {Windows Key} + Home | Minimize (or restore) all background windows |
| {Windows Key} + T | Press once: focus the first taskbar entry Press again: cycle through taskbar entries |
| {Windows Key} + Space bar | Holding these keys down in combination will peek at the desktop |
| {Windows Key} + G | Bring gadgets forward to the top |
| {Windows Key} + (1-9) Key | Open a program on the taskbar. For example: Win + 1 launches the first pinned taskbar program |
| {Windows Key} + + | Zoom in |
| {Windows Key} + - | Zoom out |
There are also a few subtile tricks to working with the pinned (or unpinned running) items on the taskbar:
| Shortcut | Description |
| {Shift} + Click on icon | Opens a program |
| Middle click on icon | Opens a program |
| {Shift} + Right click on icon | Show window menu (restore, minimize, move, etc...) |
| Drag up from taskbar icon | Opens the jump list, this is the same as just right click on the icon |
